River corridor ventilation analysis and riverfront planning strategy in Tianjin’s urban core area

River corridors are important potential wind path in cities. This paper took the river core area of Tianjin as research object. By using two ventilation indicators frontal index (FAI) and density (FAD), overall pedestrian level riverfront were quantitatively analyzed. The result showed that contrary to common belief, due high FAI area, corridor Tianjin’s did not play role but obstructed flow. Also low FAD indicator lead a better outdoor comfort summer worse winter. After verified correlation between planning (floor ratio, building height site coverage) indicators, cluster pattern urban development mode was proposed. methods based on direction dominant suggested. These strategy will be more conductive cooling island area.
